How I become a Social Media Marketer?

Well it all started way back when I was 16 years old. By this time, Social Media Marketer isnt a profession yet. Facebook and Instagram didnt even existed. Instead, we have Myspace, Multiply, Tumblr and Friendster and it was during this time that I started my social media marketing career.


I first started running my own business when I was 16 years old and as a teenager who is doing business the easiest place for me to sell at that time was on Multiply and on Friendster.


My first business was selling home made polvorons which my mom taught me, then followed by a business i ventured out of my own, wherein I am offering customized shirt printing services and to managing a restobar, selling real estate properties and buying and selling of second hand cars - sure the traditional marketing methods like flyers and words of mouth were my go-to strategies.


However, I realized that with the real estate and the buying and selling of second hand cars business the market I want to reach were the filipinos living abroad. And the best way to reach them is through social media and this led me to try out social media marketing for my own business.


At first, I was hesitant. I was still relatively new to the idea of using social media for business purposes. But I quickly learned that social media marketing was a powerful tool. I started by creating a Multiply page and a website for my business and inviting friends to like it. I also started using Friendster to reach out to potential customers.


As social media platforms evolved, I adapted to each new platform that emerged. When Facebook and Instagram became popular, I jumped on these platforms, too. I continued to use social media to promote my business and grow my following.


I realized that social media was a cost effective way to reach out to a larger audience. I was able to connect with people in a personal way, and they also had the ability to comment and share my posts, which helped broaden my reach even more.


Eventually, my friends who are also business owners began to take notice of my success and started asking for advice on how to use social media for their own businesses. I voluntarily offered to do their company's social media marketing for free and thus, my social media marketing career was born.


Looking back, it's clear that starting my own business was the key to my social media marketing success. It allowed me to experiment with different strategies and become an early adopter of the technology. Today, social media marketing is widely accepted as an essential part of any business marketing strategy. But, back then, it was still a new and emerging field, and I'm proud to have been one of the pioneers who helped shape it.
